Young Leaders

Our year 4 have been chosen to take part in the Young Leaders Award this year. We’re really excited to be involved in this programme which has been designed and written by the Archbishop of York Youth Trust. For more information visit www.abyyt.com.  The Young Leaders Award aims to equip young people to be the change they want to see in their local communities, and through a number of interactive lessons and practical challenges our pupils will be involved in serving their community and making a difference.

We first entered the Young Leaders Award course in 2016 when our Year 4 class outstounded us with their ingenuity and ideas to make a difference in the local community. They wrote to their MP about local issues they felt needed addressing and raised money for local charities. They also involved themselves in picking up litter and helping out their own families by washing up and taking out the recycling bins. We were extremely proud of their whole class project:- putting on a performance and serving afternoon tea to members of the local community.

This year our current Year 4 children will be expected to do one task a week from Archie’s challenge grid. The tasks are helping out at home and making life better for some-one within the locality. There may be opportunities for parents and family members to get involved in the community action projects that will take place later in the year.

At the end of the award each student will receive a certificate and we will host an awards evening later in the year.
