Dear parents/carers and children,

Welcome back! I hope you have all enjoyed the Christmas break and you're ready to get stuck into our next topic, Potions.

Miss Castlehow - Class teacher

As this is my first year teaching year 3 and I am very excited to get stuck in with my new class. My favourite subject is science as I love to experiment and make discoveries about the world around us. When I have the time, I enjoy reading novels and watching movies at the cinema.

Mrs Nixon - Teaching assistant

have worked at Hatfield Woodhouse for many years now, in many different year groups. My favourite subject is music, I lead whole school singing and mix traditional songs with more modern hits. I also hold choir and recorder club, at times I think it will never come together, then finally it all works out and sounds beautiful.I have had the pleasure of taking the choir to many concerts small and large over the past few years.

Topics Year 3 will be covering this year:

Autumn Term

Spring Term

Summer Term

Blue Abyss

Traders and Raiders

What will Year 3 be learning about this term?

For this term's topic, we will be taking the role of a scientist where we will explore the properties of solid, liquid and gas and even make some potions of our own! During history lessons, we will be investigating potions past and how they were once used by doctors and nurses. We will also be preparing for this year's Easter production.

  • Multiplication and division
  • Measurements: Time
  • Fractions

  • Non fiction: Adventure story based on Alice in Wonderland
  • Poetry
  • Persuasive letter

As our topic is science based, we will be conducting lots of experiements which set out to investigate: melting, freezing, condensation and the mixture of different liquids and solids.
