Dear parents/carers and children,

Welcome back!  I hope you've had a fantastic half term holiday. We are into the last term of the school, look how time has flown! Our nest nest topic is Scrummdiddlyumptious, where we will be looking at all different foods around the world, and having a go at baking some too!

Miss Turner - Class teacher

I have been teaching for 3 years and I am really looking forward to a new year, with a new class. My favourite subject is PE, as I love to play all sports, especially football! When I have the time, I enjoy reading any page-turner book, my all time favourite books are the Harry potter series. I also like watching films at home and at the cinema, going for walks with my cocker spaniels and spending time at the beach.

Mrs Crank - Teaching assistant & Learning Mentor

I have been working at Hatfield Woodhouse for over 10 years. I have mainly worked with Year 2 and 3 children but love working with all ages. I work in Nurture in the afternoons and lead the Breakfast Club every morning. My favourite subjects are PE and Maths. In my spare time I love to go to the local boxing club, where two of my sons box. I also enjoy going to London to visit my son, who lives there.

Topics Year 3 will be covering this year:

Autumn Term

Spring Term

Summer Term

Tribal Tales

What will Year 3 be learning about this term?

This term our topic is Scrumdiddlyumptious. We will be looking at creating detailed sketches of fruits, focusing on 3D form. In geography, we will be tracking the journey of a banana, from farm to shop. Alongside this, we will learn to understand the life of Fair Trade farmers. In D&T, we are going to design our own chocolate bar and make tempting wrappers to persuade people to buy them. We are also looking forward to a trip to the York Chocolate Story.

  • Geometry: Properties of 3D shapes and 3D shapes in different orientations
  • Measurment: Capacity
  • Statistics: Pictograms and Bar Charts

  • Poetry: Shape poetry and Performance poetry
  • Persuasive letter to Mr Wonka
  • Report writing: The Story of Chocolate
  • Reading and SPaG linked to our class novel; Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

In Science, Year 3 have been learning about our amazing body. They have been learning about their muscles and skeleton. The children observed athletes and had a go at different activites, to understad how exercise effects their bodies. The children also thought about what they would need to survive day to day life, and also what they would take to a desert island, in order to help them survive!
