Dear parents/carers and children,

Welcome back to the start of the new school year! I'm looking forward to getting to know the children this year! Our topics this term are Land Ahoy! and then Street Detectives after half-term.

The children will be learning to write pirate poetry using rhyming and alliteration. They will also be rewriting the story Traction Man and coming up with a new adventure for a new superhero toy.

In maths we will concentrate on place value of numbers to 100 and addition and subtraction using objects, pictures and more formal written methods.

I have been teaching for 4 years at Hatfield Woodhouse Primary and this will be my first year teaching Year 2. I have 2 daughters, Sophie (soon to be 14! - any tips on dealing with teenagers will be much appreciated) and Eleanor 8. When I'm not working I love reading (fantasy books like Lord of the Rings are my favourite) and watching cooking programmes, although my husband is the Star Baker at home. My favourite subject is History, expecially ancient history. My favourite place to visit is Rome - I love walking round the ruins and museums - and sampling some Tiramisu.

I've been working at Hatfield Woodhouse Primary since...well, let's just say it's a long time! I've worked with Mrs Lynch for 2 years and I'm pleased to have moved up with this years class. P.E. is my favourite subject and I love taking the older children for swimming lessons as well. When not in school, I enjoy watching sports. I'm originally from South Africa so I support their Rugby Union team and their cricket team too.
