Welcome to the Hedgehogs (Year 1) homepage

Class Information

  • Teacher - Mrs L Phillips
  • Teaching Assistant - Mrs J Parkin
  • Class size - 30

Dear parents/carers and children, welcome back, after what we hope was a well deserved rest for both you and the children. Our new topic for this half term will be ‘Land Ahoy’ where we will be learning about significant historical people like Captain James Cook, using and making maps, locating seas and continents and of course, pirates and their way of life. This will include lots of creative activites and practical learning.

Mrs L Phillips - Teacher

I am currently the year 1 teacher and this is now my fourth year at Hatfield Woodhouse, my first two years I spent teaching in FS1. I qualified in 2004 and taught in Barnsley before joining this school, which may I add, I love! My favourite subjects are art, maths and geography, I enjoy being able to teach children through practical experiences. I am 36 and have 3 daughters. There is 3 years and 3 days between the eldest and the yougest, which works well as they love spending time together and have similar interests. Olivia is currently in year 6, Jessica is in year 34and Sophie, who was born 5 weeks premature is now in year 3. I have been with my husband for 17 years and when we get the chance to spend time as a family we do enjoy going outdoors, especially in the winter, we all really do love the snow!

Mrs J Parkin - Teaching Assisstant

My name is Mrs Parkin, I have worked at Hatfield Woodhouse for many years as a Teaching Assistant. My favourite lessons are maths, science and anything hands on/messy! I love spending time with my husband Richard and my son Jack, when he is home from university in Cumbria. In my spare time I have a passion for dance and I attend and help teach modern jive dance classes in the local area (Sheffield and Wakefield).
